I always wondered that, who cares, for some reason Tommy didn't come up with any of the drum tracks on the 1st two albums, that had Sully do them, IM NOT COMPLAINING [grin], but now Shannon is the backbone and we all know he rocks! \m/ \m/[excited]

From what I understand, it was a joint decision by all members, they didn't "put" Shannon in Tommy's place, Tommy decided that he wanted to go in a different direction than the one that Godsmack was going in and so he left. It wasn't until after Tommy left that Sully asked Shannon to become the new drummer.
