If I can draw (or trace) it I can make it into an embroidery file... And I'm pretty durned good at it.

My machine is limited to a 4"x4" design area. I can get creative by placing elements in different frames to make larger images, but getting a good solid image over the max size is tough. (Lining up the tiles on the fabric is tricky and leads to explosive foul language.)

I can create and send embroidery files anywhere and in any format -- so if someone knows of a larger machine, I can do the set-up. (Maybe your embroidery lady would give us a break if we provided the file.)

I just did a HUGE gold embroidery on red taffeta project for a dress for Hannah. (She is soooooo freaking spoiled.... what other nine year old gets the dress that she sketched out, in the fabric of her choice with all-over embroidery that she had design approval on... I'm SO screwed when she's in her teens and saying "prom gown".) Anyhow -- metallic embroidery worked like a charm. I haven't worked silver thread, but I doubt there will be much difference.

If anyone wants to send me six grand or so, I can upgrade to a machine that will do anything....

Aargh.... Back to school.... Am I ever gonna freakin' graduate????

PM me and we can talk more. I'll be putting the quilt together, so I can answer any questions.

Actually Toni, Kat is the one in charge of this project, so any questions should be directed to her. That's just proper decorum, and all info should be in this forum instead of starting P.M.s with people . I know you are just trying to be helpful, but there is only one leader per project, and Kat is it for this one. We don't want things getting confused.

I know, but since he has questions on how to do a square, I thought it would be easier. I didn't mean to step on any toes.

I know you're not trying to step on any toes, but you inadvertantly did. In the past, all things related to the projects have been posted on the forum for all people to benefit from the questions and answers. Starting P.M.s about the details really is detrimental because then the details are not here for everyone to see. AND I know that you are trying to make sure that the squares are "appropriate" for a quilt, but that's not your call. Everyone has creative freedom, and even though you work hard putting the quilt together, you really have no say about what people can or can't do. Just trying to help you realize that even though we all REALLY appreciate the work you do, there have been several quilts made so far where the quilter has not been able to say what can and can't be done. It's really just not your call. I hope I am not hurting your feelings. That is not my intention.

While a PM would be the right way to respond with/to criticism, I am going to respond publicly in an attempt to defend myself, and ease some of this embarrassment. Plus, I do not know who all of the dissatisfied people are that bluehorse has mentioned (see: “quilt for new Merrill baby!!” thread), and want to be sure everyone is addressed.

Bluehorse is absolutely right. I should keep all comments on the design and assembly of the projects public, for everyone to benefit from. I have always understood the decorum. I made the mistake of assuming that technical questions about how to assemble a block would be best answered on a PM, since the majority of the participants have already experienced this. Speaking of decorum, personal criticism deserves a PM, not a public posting. This was done to me twice today, and it will be the last time.

I have been intrusted with the assembly, and technical coordination of the quilts. That means that while everyone designs their own block, I have to make sure that it can be assembled to last forever, as any heirloom should. I agonized over how to quilt every block, one-at-a-time, in a way that would complement each design. The blocks had to be done that way; that is the very definition of a quilt. You have to thoroughly attach the face of the quilt to the back of the quilt. This is how the batting in the middle is secured in place so that it will not separate and bunch-up. This does not make the blocks “my own”. It makes the blocks a “quilt”. I am sorry if the patterns were not to everyone’s liking, I really tried my best.

I expended an incredible amount of time, love, and expense (along with my family) to assemble Jess’s quilt. I am now being told that I should never have had any creative freedom. A few words of advice for the next projects: if you are trusting someone to combine multiple people’s vision into one finished heirloom, then you either need to be specific about the design upfront, or trust that the assembler will do the best that they can in the interest of everyone involved, for the finished project. While it sounds like I failed a few people with this trust, I am so grateful that Jess and Shannon enjoyed the finished quilt, and everyone’s effort. While I keep telling myself that is all that matters, I still am hurt by all of this.

With the help of my smack sistahs and my family, I got to experience a once-in-a-lifetime weekend. The great friendship, the laughs, the tattoo, the look on Shannon’s face, the music, plus so much more; it was such a great experience that I never want to forget. In an attempt to prevent this issue from ruining a great memory, I will probably should remove myself from any future projects. I love my friends, my family, and the music of Godsmack. I do not love what has happened today, and refuse to let this affect me any longer. I am sorry.

Toni, I am sorry if my response has made you feel as if you are being criticized in public. Again, that was not my intention. I posted this in the public forum so that every person who had issues with the last quilt can see that it has been addressed and then respond if they wish. I will not list the people who were dissatisfied with how their squares were altered, etc. That is for them to say. I feel that discussing these issues in this forum may well help other future project to run more smoothly because we are honestly discussing our feelings in a way not meant to be hurtful. I agonized over posting this, and hope that it did not harm the budding friendship that we have. However, it IS important that these issued be discussed so that these problems will not be repeated in the future, and it is important to have the issues out in public so that everyone sees how much is dealt with when doing these projects.

I understand what you mean about quilting the fabric to the backing to increase durability, but with the small size of each block, the edges being sewn together should have been adequate to my opinion. I've never made a quilt...I don't know.

Anyway, I reiterate that it was not my intention to do a public "calling out", but this is a great chance to help future projects work more smoothly. Only people who are planning to be involved in these projects usually look at these specific threads. I apologize if I have hurt your feelings, but am truly working towards the "greater good" so to speak.

Not at all. These are issues that needed to be addressed so that everyone can feel comfortable with their contributions to the projects. I have great respect for Wolfquilter's work that she did on the last project. Not many people would give up the time and effort that she did to make the project happen. I'm not trying to be the bi tch here.

Toni do not remove yourself from future projects. OK.

I know this issue was just as hard for Lisa to write as it had to be for you to read. Lisa is one of the kindest women I have ever met and I know she would never do anything to intentionally hurt anyone.

We (as a family) can get though this and be stronger then we were before.

Luv ya sistahs

oh my goodness!! my work style by california psychics;

Taurus: The controller
The key to being a good employee to a Taurus boss is to conform to their routines and deadlines, without too many questions. They need to feel like everything is running smoothly - their way. If you want to get ahead with a Taurus manager, keep them in the know about the projects you're working on, with quick updates on how they're moving along. Don't take advantage of this employer's easygoing nature. They will only be patient with up to a point. If they see you getting lazy, repeating the same mistakes, or becoming argumentative, you could be looking at a pink slip without a lot of warning.

Eeker

O.K, so we all need to decide on a course of action here. Are we providing our own square material? I feel that this would be a good idea. Everyone can decide on the color and the project can get started. Do we have a deadline set? Are people sending me their scrapbook pages or are they being mailed to Kat?
Details people!!! Let's get them ironed out!

Toni, I hope you are still in on these projects. I would hate to know that I was responsible for you not wanting to participate. We all really want you to still be a part of this.

I am easy... well wait... let me rephrase that.

If the majority of people want to hunt down fabric I am game, if we decide to have it all the same fabric, again.. I am game Wink

On the scrapbook thing, I can try to do something and then maybe email it to someone to print out, along with a check for the ink and such.. I do not have a printer 0_O
