i've been thinking about jess and how she's the only gs child who doesn't have a quilt from her smack family. she had already been born when shannon joined gs. so let's make a quilt for her too! toni (wolfquilter) and i will be heading it up but it'll be a few months before we can officially start. since it takes awhile for these projects, i thought i'd start a thread to get the planning stages started. i want to do something different this time - i want everyone to include a pic of themselves to go with their square(s) and we'll make sort of a graph showing who made what square with their pic. who's in?

thanks! i'm getting some info soon. i was thinking maybe instead of a graph page, each person who submits a square could do a scrapbook page about their square, why they chose to do it the way they did and wishes and advice for jess. the left page could have a pic of the smacker as well as show where on the quilt their square is and the right page could be there's. come to think of it, that's not a bad idea for those who worked on nianni's quilt. i dunno about skylar's quilt cuz i don't know if all the smackers who worked on it still come around.....
Definitely count me in. I was so bummed that I did'nt get in on the last quilt project. I have more confidence in myself now. How big do they need to be? Any color scheme yet?

k, someone is getting info for us and i will post as soon as i get it. i'm thinking something a bit decadent such as velvet backing and satin trim but since i don't know much about quilting, i'll rely on toni to tell us what works and what materials will last. i would like this quilt to reflect jess but also grow with her. as far as the accompanying scrapbook, toni's quilting group's page will be first showing the process of the quilt being put together as well as pics of the quilters who were wonderful and kind enough to help us pull this project together. also, everyone who submits will have to send $$ as well as their square and scrapbook pages. witchy was left with a helluva bill for the last quilt. it isn't fair for the person who puts the quilt together to have to absorb the majority of the cost so if you're in, you're going to have to send $15 - 20 to cover costs. we'll give a definite price once we have all the smackers we need to fill a quilt. toni - i'm hoping this quilt can cover maybe a full size bed.
i'm envisioning a quilt with machine washable purple velvet backing and matching satin trim and soft denim square of various shades of blue. what do ya'll think?
anyone who wishes to participate but lacks, or thinks they do, creativity, you're welcome to do the center square which will have jess's birth info embroidered on it.
Not to be the bearer of "bad" news...but We never made one for Tony's kids either...he has 3 last I knew.
I'm going to sit out of this one and let someone else have a square since I rarely come to the board anymore I think someone who is more of a regular participant should be included.
I'm in when you need me. Just yell..Glad you sent it to me or I would have been out. Too much work and too little time!
Thanks!

I like the idea of decadence, but velvet and satin are hard to quilt. I won't be sending this out for quilting, I am doing it myself. The denim is a good idea, and flannel works well with it, because anything else would just be too heavy. Going that route, blocks would need to be 9 inches. let me look at some patterns, and do some drawing over the weekend. Full size is very do-able, and I will be able to figure out how many blocks we would need, and cost that way. There are some wonderful fabrics out there, so give me some time to see what magic we can do.

Oh, and I have a butt load of denim that I have been collecting for a denim quilt. I actually have a ton of other fabrics, too. It's just that velvet and satin wouldn't work for the backing, but on the blocks would be okay. Fleece is great for backing, and you don't have to add batting. They have satin binding, and we could use that.
Let me figure some thins out, and I'll get back to ya's.

One at a time, LOL, is how we can do one for them all. I don't mind. If we get details for everyone, we can plan them and get them done. Blocks are easy to make up, and we all can do them, or I can make blocks and send them to everyone to personalize. I don't mind doing them as long as everyone wants to help.
