Lately, since the last time I've really updated everyone. Life has been hectic. Christmas was fun. Lots of neat stuff, great times with family, my daughter's face when she got her big girl bike (which she now rides up and down the hall), and the food! No wonder I went back to work from break ten pounds heavier!
Basically now, the honeymoon phase of the house is over. Gone are the days of looking kindly at its quirks and eccentricities. And now comes the phase of dealing with some crap going on.
First off it was the furnace, no big deal, it was under warranty and the parts and labor only cost the service call fee of $60.
Then came my wife's car. Shifter linkage broke, so it didn't know it was in Park, so the key couldn't come out, a week and a half, a trip to Mitsubishi of Des Moines, and $121 later, its running proper again.
Then, and this is the part that really cheesed me! The idiots who lived here before us decided it was ok to flush the big four no-nos. For those who don't know. Thats pads, tampons, baby wipes and paper towels. The things that don't biodegrade in the pipes! And to top it off, they didn't have a cap in the clean out area of the drainpipe. It was a convenience store cup with a GOJO container for weight. So when it backed up, and I pumped the toilet, it basically allowed all of that s*it, p*ss and toilet paper to flow freely....into the basement! I was so f*cking irate I couldn't see straight the day I found this going on. Needless to say, I now hate playing "Find That Smell". $160 approx. later, the pipe is cleaned, and I'm getting lime to take care of the rest of the cleanup. F*ckin idiots! Oh! And the porta potty guy who does this kind of removal even gave up on me. Said it was just sludge and we'd have to bucket it out. But he'll at least bring 55 gal drums and take it off my hands for me. Mental note, get another gallon of bleach.
And now, we get the laundry room cleaned up from the mess of the plumbers tracking in there with all that mess (lots of bleach and water, then pine sol, then a rinse with the swiffer mop). And we started to do laundry again, because I needed pants and we needed towels. The dryer doesn't work now! So there's another $13. So I now owe my mom $281 for all the help she's given me, because I fecking hate asking for her help, I'm sure she'll get it back at some point.
I'm at the point where I just want to blow up the house so I can collect the insurance and drop a new foundation and house on this lot.
Oh, and now my daughter has a 104 fever. So this month keeps getting better and better! I'm not trying to complain, but its not easy.
