The winter solstice is the day the god is said to have returned to life, as he died on samhain(that is as i believe.) I am not wiccan as yule is the wiccan name for the holiday that im almost certain all pagans celebrate. i wish u all a happy winter solstice, christmas, hanaka, or watever holiday you observe.if no holiday or u be atheist then i wish u a great week.
Life, love, liberty, freedom, justice and equality for all......
.........for all regardless of any other reason.

Thank you for the warm wishes, sonofhorus!
Actually, the story behind Yule and the winter solstice is one that varies per each path. My personal path is one of Wiccan background and in that tradition, I believe that the year is split in two halves. One half is when the Holly King reigns from Summer Solstice until Yule (Winter Solstice) when the Sun King wins the battle and is reborn. Starting on this day, the Sun grows and the days become longer, the nights shorter.
When the Summer Solstice (Midsummer, Litha) comes, the Holly King is reborn and begins His 6 month reign. The days grow shorter and the nights, longer.
