AUTHOR, singer and white witch Fiona Horne was not just battling the elements when she took part on Channel 7's Celebrity Survivor.
Marooned in a remote part of Vanuatu, Horne's biggest challenge was coping with the insulting and inflammatory comments of Survivor host Ian Dickson.
"I found a lot of his behaviour to be unnecessarily derogatory and sexist," Horne said.
"He said deliberately provocative things. He basically said the girls can't look after themselves and needed a man to rescue them.
"His derogatory and sexist comments determined story lines."
Horne said she was disappointed by Dickson's cheap shots at the female contestants.
"He was doing himself a discredit. I don't know why he does it because he is smarter and funnier than that," she said.
"I don't think that (making sexist and derogatory comments) is humourous. It is boring. I clashed with him."
Horne, formerly of Melbourne, now calls LA home. She is an author and celebrity white witch and is now dabbling in film and documentary production.
She had little idea of what she was letting herself in for when she signed on for Celebrity Survivor.
"We were told at first it was a different show. We were told it was going to be Celebrity Mole." she said.
"We didn't know until the last minute that it was Survivor."
The idea of being stranded in a tropical paradise did not concern Horne, but the strategy element of the show was a significant challenge for her.
"When I heard that you have to be able to backstab, cheat, lie and manipulate people, I thought, 'I am going to fail miserably because I am useless at that stuff'," she said.
