I thought that this would be a good place to talk about hummingbirds. I had been trying to feed them with store boughten nectar, & they were'nt eating it. & then my brother told me that if you mix 1 part sugar to 3 parts water, they will eat it every time. So I tried it & they have been eating it ever since. They have gotten bigger & miltiplied. It has been allot of fun for us. I just saw one on the front porch with a beautiful red neck. They are still eating away & it is almost december. I've taken the glass feeder in in case it freezes, but I have a plastic one in the front & in the back. I just use a little baby cup that I have, but you could go 1/3 cup sugar to 1 cup water. It would probably be better to start when it is warmer, but I just wanted to share.

you're welcome. the best feeders are 97c at walmart & are easily cleaned.

& I got 2 Rammstein CD's at walmart tonight too. maybe that place does have everything.

I once found a site that told you how to make your own hummingbird feeder out of recycled soda bottles. I'll hunt it up and post it later.

Hey thanks Bam. I didn't know that I had to boil it. & I have gotten a narrow bottle brush to clean the feeders. (I bought the big one first & it didn't work). They are very beautiful.

If you are in an area prone to ants as I am, A good idea is to take a tomato cage used to hold up tomatoes and plant it large ring to the top and smaller ring to the bottom in the ground about 3 to 5 inches if possible. Then take a wire coat hanger and wind it across the width of the top. This will support the feeder, you could also X a second one across the first in the other direction. This will provide a perch for your little attitudinal birds. (Attitudinal only with eachother and wasps...lol) there are all kinds of ant repelents you can use on the ground to help keep them away from your feeder apply to the ground and on the metal of the cage and that should keep them happy and no nasty ants for them to fight for at least a week if no rain.

Hey thanks. Beautiful birds, these are. But I have this male who will get right in my face and chirp & then look at his empty feeder, chirp some more & then huff off. & then of course, I go & get them some more food. very voicey, some of these guys. -love to listen to their hum.
