I just had to ask because I was curious what everyone believes happens when you die. What others believe. I believe in reincarnation.

Question:
What do you believe happens when you die? I just had to post this curious question

Choices:
Heaven/ heaven and hell
Reincarnation
No afterlife, you just die
other
Uncertain
a mix

Hard say exactly. I voted for "a mix" reason being is that I somewhat believe in heaven/hell. But in a different way.

I believe that when you die, your soul stays here on earth. But depending on what your soul deserves (good/bad) it reflects on how you see earth. To make more sense on that think of like this....

If you deserve to live a good afterlife, then your vision on earth is happy, positive energies, everything feels perfect to you. On the other hand though, if you deserve to live a bad afterlife than everything is negative, horrible, feeling dead.

But still yet, I don't really know what to believe in. Can't really say. I grew up believing in heaven/hell, sometimes I just believe in heaven and no hell. But now that I've grown, I just don't know what to believe or think anymore.

Good question and I'm sure that diffrent people on here will ost diffrent ideas. I can't wait to see the various answers myself since I also like knowing what other believe in.

This is what I believe.

First off I believe that we all have a Soul Path. What I mean is I believe that we have various duties and paths to do in our various lives (lessons) but in the end we have ONE thing we have to do or learn to finish our Soul Path.

Okay now I believe when a person dies they enter the Otherworld (which I perfer to Call Tir Nan Og) which is divine paradise (sort of like heaven if you will) and you live another life there until you die which takes you back to this world (or up the spiriual ladder if you will) I also believe that after so much learning and livng once you finish your Soul Path you "die" again and head to a place called Mag Mell which is eternal.

I don't believe in a hell but I do believe that people can be punished but only if they keep f*cking up in their various lives. I believe that you keep going down the spiritual ladder every time you rightiously screw up and that the ultimate punishment is to be alone....although I don't believe that this is eternal. I believe that people who are punished like this can redeem themselves and climb back up upon the said spiritual ladder.

You laugh at me because you fear what I am. You see that I am a link between the old and new, carrying the spirit of inspiration with me. That's okay though because I don't resent you. I wil always embrace you as family no matter what scorn I might recieve for I am the Bard.

I don't believe in an afterlife, though sometimes I wish I did. I think it would be comforting to know I'm going to see my loved ones again after death. However, at the same time if there was an afterlife I'm not sure if I would work on living this life to the fullest.

Not to bash you MidnightStar, or anyone else for that matter. But when I think about no afterlife, or just the feeling of death and that's it. It just seems too unreal. Can you possibly put yourself as "nothing"? I know it might be hard to make sense of what I'm saying, but I guess it just seems odd to be "nothing" after you die. Like something has to happen to your soul or whatever, unless you become air and just let nature blow you around. But eh, idk. lol

Voted for "other" since rebirth is not on the list.

Anthony, you make perfect sense. Many people struggle with the idea of ceasing to exist after death in any shape or form. Mind you, for an atheist it's ok. I was an atheist for about 2 decades, I know Big Grin The body decomposes and becomes the part of the same matter from which all forms of life are created over and over again. There will be no you after death, but there will be something/somebody else. It's not such a gloomy vision, is it? Smiler Because there will be no other chance and no other life for an atheist, he/she has a great incentive to live to the fullest here and now, to the best he/she can be while the single life lasts.

I believe in God, maker of Heaven and Earth. When I die, I'll be in Heaven chillin' by the pool sippin' on an iced tea.

Yeah it just doesn't make any sense to me when I think about being absolutely nothing after death. Like you gotta be something, I just couldn't imagine if I was blank. Now for someone who may be an atheist and who believes that their body will be on with earth or whatever, that's something I can understand. I just don't know what type of afterlife I really believe in. Besides what I posted up above. But there is more than that of course. Too many possibilities to post.

When Jesus was sent to Herod (to determine what should be done with him), Herod said unto the Christ:

"Prove to me that you're no fool; walk across my swimming pool."

---or was that just in Andrew Lloyd Weber's version? Wink

Isnt reincarnation and rebirth the same? Or what is the difference between them?

Life, love, liberty, freedom, justice and equality for all......

.........for all regardless of any other reason.

No, they are not. They do have a few things in common: both imply multiple lives, both advocate interconnection with other beings and with the whole world, both speak of Karma.

With reincarnation, there is some immortal entity (the mind, the soul or whatever you are more comfortable with) that keeps coming back and life time after time. It's the same one who is being reincarnated.

With rebirth, such entity doesn't exist. The one who is born again isn't the same one who've died. They are related, yes, but that relation is limited to the time frame between death and subsequent birth when the entity actually cease to exist before being born again. If you are familiar with initiation rites in different cultures, this interrupted progression from one life to another is very similar to what happens with multiple initiations a person undergoes during a single life: a boy, a grown man, a husband, an elder - all of these are seemingly the same person, but symbolically there is a moment of temporary death, ceasing to exist, between each two stages of life. A boy disappears before reappearing again as a man. The longest period of non-existence that comes in the form of physical death is in most cases temporary too. Once it's over, the person comes back to live as someone who is connected to the one who died before but isn't necessarily the same person.

If you are still with me, in some Buddhist schools the person who underwent rebirth is not entirely different nor is the same as the one who'd died. While both the body and mind disintegrate after death, if the mind was a delusional one, it will cause continuity of consciousness that will become an awaiting mind ready to be reborn again and carry out his delusion to the next cycle.
