Palin once blessed to be free from 'witchcraft'

By GARANCE BURKE, Associated Press WriterThu Sep 25, 12:27 AM ET

A grainy YouTube video surfaced Wednesday showing Sarah Palin being blessed in her hometown church three years ago by a Kenyan pastor who prayed for protection from "witchcraft" as she prepared to seek higher office.

The video shows Palin standing before Bishop Thomas Muthee in the pulpit of the Wasilla Assembly of God church, holding her hands open as he asked Jesus Christ to keep her safe from "every form of witchcraft."

"Come on, talk to God about this woman. We declare, save her from Satan," Muthee said as two attendants placed their hands on Palin's shoulders. "Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus. ... Use her to turn this nation the other way around."

Palin formally announced her bid for governor a few months later, in October 2005.

Palin does not say anything on the video and keeps her head bowed throughout the blessing. The Republican vice presidential candidate was baptized at the church but stopped attending regularly in 2002.

A spokesman for the McCain campaign declined to comment. A person who answered the phone at the Wasilla church confirmed the video was from May 2005 but declined further comment.

Palin was baptized Roman Catholic as a newborn.

Pentecostals are conservative in their reading of the Bible. Unlike most other Christians — including most evangelicals — Pentecostals believe in "baptism in the Holy Spirit." That can manifest itself through speaking in tongues, modern-day prophesy and faith healing, which includes the laying on of hands.

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, has said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.

This vid is interesting.

Forgive her error ways. (smiles) Fortunately, she does stand for "religious freedom". What is most important this coming election are the issues these candidates stand for, what they look to change (whether we know they have the ability to change it or have one heck of a fight due to oppositional forces -ie: Democratic Congress -). One of my BFF is AOG and deeeeeeply Christian. At one point I had to keep joking about trying to convert me. He finally got the point. I taught him what the true meaning of "Namaste" was and put in such a way that we could co-exist without conversion. LOLOL It worked. Lots of people don't like me. I just wish it was BECAUSE I am a witch.

Palin has my respect because she not only has vocalized but by her actions, have shown she doesn't believe in wasteful government spending. The issue I look at with McCain, is if the presidency will kill him, then she is who we will have. Hmmmmm.

I don't see Palin as being tolerant of other religions. She wants to bring the Christian faith into the government even more. She said that the Iraq war "was in gods plan for the nation." I would never ever vote for any ticket with her name on it.

Well, if it's that she got "blessed" to be protected from "evil spirits/spells/etc" whatever, then you may as well condemn me too.

Yeah, I've asked friends (very good Christian friends) to pray for me/over me, because I believe that I may have been cursed.

Will try to keep this short: Uncle going thru divorce circa 2000. Soon-to-be-ex, in a conversation about something, somehow admits to being a "witch". Truthfully, don't know if I can believe her or not (she is the type to invent something if she thinks it'll give her an advantage). Soon after that, Uncle wins something in court against her. Not long after that - entire family starts experiencing "bad luck". (Don't know how else to describe it.) Mom ends up in hospital, lung disease acting up; Aunt ends up in hospital after second day of cruise - double pneumonia. Uncle's daughter (supposed-witch's daughter, too), playing with a few kids in the bedroom, falls on her head and experiences paralysis (does go away after a few hours, though...)...

That's just the beginning. It's been 5+ years now since this all happened, and to be quite honest, it hasn't let up. My mother passed away 3+ yrs ago. My aunt now has the same lung disease that killed my mother, and her husband - diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, given an "all-clear" after surgery in late March, then diagnosed with inoperable cancer in his liver in July. Uncle spent time in hospital last Sept - blood clots in lungs - he has been unemployed for a year now...running out of money - THEN he hits a deer. Would've "totalled" his car, but he never got a $71 bill from his insurance company, so they'd CANCELLED him! (Now reinstated!)

And guess who had to max out her credit card so he could get his car back...

Also, I infamously got a nasty pneumonia and ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks, was operated on, etc. And STILL struggling with that crap, too.

Well...I don't want to bore you with EVERYTHING (I know...too late!)... Let's just say I will forever be grateful to Sully Erna, simply because the ONE NIGHT of peace and relaxation and NO worry that I've had in at least the last 5 years was seeing him solo last May in New Jersey. (Nice 4 hr drive down - I love to drive! - bummin' round the casino till showtime - fantastic show, then a nice 4 hr drive back...just a PERFECT day for me!) Except for that ONE day, I am just...ugh. Exhausted, really, at this point. No use in asking "What'll happen next?" Just means I'm gonna find out...

And yes, I have sought "spiritual" help. Someone told me that to break a spell, you have to put salt in your urine. Well...we all were doing that! (Imagine my poor mom, in the hospital on a sodium restricted diet, asking the nurses for salt so she can put it in her pee?!!! I'm surprised they didn't move her to the "funny ward"!) Maybe that's something from an old Irish wives tale.

I've had my friend Mike (about to start a "healing ministry" in his Methodist church) pray over me. He got a few of his fellow church-goers, too. Several co-workers know about my situation (the WHOLE thing) - they've been praying for me too. Asked an Army chaplain (friend of mine) what I could do; he's also been praying for me. Another old high-school chum (Aaron) is an AME Zionist minister - HE'S praying for me, too, and tried an "exorcism" of some kind (not like you see in the movies....I wasn't spinning my head and spitting out pea soup!) And despite all this...I still can't catch a break.

I thought, "Maybe I'm asking 'God' for too much," but not really. I mean, I'm not looking for anything other than resolutions to what's going on now, and just some happy moments for my family. I'm not asking for a BIG JACKPOT win, or anything extravagant. Just a little peace and quiet, rather than the chaos it's been. I don't want to hear my uncle talking about "giving up" - "walking away" - etc - not with a 14 year old daughter. He lost his father at 14, I lost my father at 14, and I will be DAMNED if I'm gonna let that happen to her ('specially since she does NOT get along with her mother at all...it's beyond the common mother-daughter squabbling - the daughter has nailed her mother in some major lies, and daughter has seen that mom will only help her when it's convenient for the mother...the so-called witch.) I'm trying to hold my aunt together, too - as she faces the impending passing of her husband from cancer. SH*T - I'm the "baby" of the family, and yet - somehow, I'm the one "responsible" to take care of everything! (That was always my mother's job...THANKS MA!)

So...there you have it. Sorry...guess I had to vent it (again)...didn't mean to. I have asked Christians to help me out, and pray with me/over me/whatever, against (what may be) the "curse" of a witch.

Of course, I would welcome "witch-input" as well (maybe Palin would've done better had she done that, too?). Being life's virtual punching bag for the last couple of years, I'm at my wits end here. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! Smiler

Maybe I'm beyond help, this has been going on so long. I dunno...

Ok, so Palin stands for developing oil and gas in Arctic refuges, for exploiting natural resources and keeping citizens happy with no sales or income state tax because she can afford that instead of investing money in making Alaska still inhabitable for future generations. Speaking of wasteful spendings, there was a Bridge to Nowhere, a project to connect an island with the population of 50 to the local airport. Palin was very enthusiastic about it and gave up only after the criticism grew really strong. The project was staled, hundreds of millions of federal $$ received for it already were never returned. Would be interesting to know where they are intended to go. There is also a gas pipeline project, with big money and license already awarded to I don't remember whom, and indigenous tribes are still against it, and so far no one bothered to take their concerns into consideration.

She does claim to support a the right to bear handguns and the necessity to educate youth about the gun safety, the advocates death penalty, but all that good stuff is overridden by promoting rationism in schools and touting preemptive wars as God's will. I won;t go into her views on more touchy issues like abortion or same-sex marriage, but I don't like any of that. Out of everything that is known about this woman so far, her going to a Pentecostal church for whatever reason is the least worrisome bit, although it seems to somehow be tied to exhibiting religious intolerance.

I hate this woman because its hard to tell where she stands. She says she's against wasteful spending and pork projects, but she took the money for the bridge to nowhere, and won't detail where it's gone. Plus the fact that she hasn't answered a lot of questions that tell me where she wants this nation to go. Also, has anyone seen the picture of her with the leader of Afghanistan? That looks like resume padding if I've ever seen it. Granted it makes Obama look bad because he hasn't set down with any foreign leaders yet. On the flipside, it seems presumptuous to sit down with foreign leaders when you are just the governor of Alaska. You have about 40 days, lets not put the cart before the dogs.

I just don't like her. It doesn't help that I see more of the same BS that I saw the last 8 years. Bull**** posturing, ducking questions. The same **** that got the three stooges that Bush appointed to the Supreme Court. Makes me wonder what the hell people think about. And the fact that McCain likes some of Bush's new policies he's enacted the last 8 years. Ones that have lead to the demise of our financial system. **** him and the horse he rode in on. Don't piss down my back and tell me its raining, McCain is not my choice, nor will he ever be, hot VP or not.

Thats all Palin is, just some smokin ass to put on a fledgling Rep ticket.

I bet if Obama picked Cindy Crawford, McCain would have just been like: "F*ck it, you can have the presidency, I don't stand a chance with the American public."

My dear coffee owl...it has been much too long since our last convo. I was actually poking fun at Kat since I don't get on here as often as I used too. Maybe I should been a bit more detailed.

I do stand my ground though when I say that people should open their eyes to the world around us and really get involved with this election in order to make an educated vote. I have heard from some of my co-workers (and honestly, I WISH I could make this up) that they are voting for Obama BECAUSE he is black, and two co-workers are voting for McCain because Obama IS black. *Shakes head* I was merely trying to point out that people should honestly look at the issues that mean the most to them, and go with the candidate that best suits them and their beliefs. I may open myself to an attach here, but really, show me a clean politican with an impeccable record. None of us are perfect, and we all have a past. I am just disappointed in the people around me when I hear statements like they would never vote for McCain/Palin because she couldn't keep her 17 year old daughter from getting pregnant.

*On a side note, I am even more disappointed in our presidental debate where our two candidates spent NO time talking about foreign policy. They focused on domestic. The next debate is only about domestic policy, and I hope that the forum is opened for them to talk about what they should have focused on in the first place.*

Why am I not surprised.

I am not on a mission to find a dove-white candidate. I would settle for someone who has a plan for bringing changes about and is eager to at least try to make it a reality, and the rest won't bother me in the least. So far, the only difference between the two candidates who are left is that with the McCain/Palin combo the country is more likely to pick up a scandal or three during the next 4 years. I do not mean a pregnant daughter kind of scandal, rather some stupid political decision. IMHO, the main problems will stay unresolved no matter who wins.

*nodes* No one wants to touch THAT mess in addition to the domestic one. See my IMHO above.

you funny owl!! but actually, the issue i'm joking about isn't funny at all. apparently, palin supports shooting wildlife from helicopters, many we are trying to protect from becoming endangered. there's a video showing her doing it, however, i haven't been able to stomach watching it. i took trusted friends' word for it.

Now that's downright depressing. It never dawned to me that you were referring to THAT.

So far wolves are not in any danger in Alaska; it's just a bad idea for many other reasons to airshoot them and bears like Palin advocates.

Yeah I understand Coffee, you are right, they say witchcraft in the reference to harmful curses, I just love to joke. I do think she is not very tolerant of other cultures and religions, but here she is innocent, she is just afraid of curses.
