Go to http://www.witchvox.com/, at the bottom of the page there is a form with several drop downs. Under "Pagan Groups", choose "Path", type Asatru, and it will give you a list of Asatru groups by location. See if there is anything close to you. If that fails, search for online groups. Google is great indeed, but it has no idea if the results it serves you are credible or not. If you don't know much about the religion that interests you, you may find yourself reading BS without even knowing it. With that being said, Google still is a great source. But it won't be able to give you guidance that you seem to need. Good luck.

We have a Germanic Paganism forum on our site. Unfortunately, it won't grow much more that is now because our authority on Asatru passed away unexpectedly 2 1/2 weeks ago. We're still healing from this loss.

There's some good basic knowledge there. I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, be it people to worship with or just information.

http://www.asatru.org/ is also a good place to start for basic information.

Then you want to check WitchVox. Don't know how far from Chicago you are but there's an Asatru book discussion group in Midlothian. Other than that, there doesn't look to be a lot of Asatru-only groups. I've found that you will often find at least a couple of Asatru in the "Eclectic" or "Open" groups.
