from what i understand, the nobel peace prize is for those who have already created positive change in our world - not those who have the power and/or potential to effect positive change. i believe it was a premature move to show just how accepting and nonjudgemental we are.

You realise that the US has absolutely zero control over the Nobel Prizes and how they're awarded, right? There's 5 committee members that vote on who they think should win a particular prize. http://nobelpeaceprize.org/en_...n_committee/members/
Every person on that list is Norwegian, I'm pretty sure.. since Norway is who completely governs the whole Nobel Prize thing.
