In all honesty though, despite the **** he's doing that he's getting flack for, it's necessary. And the people who are protesting these higher taxes piss me off. It's not unnecessary, its not extreme. He's just wanting to return several tax brackets to Pre-Bush levels. If that's extreme, then screw it, lets all not pay taxes. It's only fair!

I don't mind paying taxes at all. Here's the thing that I think alot of people are missing as to why the people are upset. You cannot, in any way, spend the billions being spent right now and not tax the people highly in the future. Right now my taxes are fine. But watch what happens in a few years.
Not only that, but when all of the stimulus money has to be paid back the states will have to shell out the money and the only way they can do that is by taxing more. The states are already running out of money and our state taxes are going up everywhere in one form or another.

In all honesty, I personally think we need higher taxes, but we shouldn't spend all of that extra revenue. We should be putting all of that money towards three things, 40% towards stimulating the economy through infrastructure repair, 40% towards better schools and 20% towards paying down the national debt.

This is exactly why our governor Mark Sanford wants to refuse the money. He was told by the government that the money must be spent as dictated.

Bush did several things that didn't work while he was president, he cut taxes during a war, and gave the Americans too many rebates, which left him shorthanded when it came to the war. It's just insane. There's only one way to properly fund a war, and that's taxes, and for those who cry wolf when taxes get raised and want to protest them need to remember one thing, taxes were never lower in the last 30 years, at one point during the high days of the Reagan administration, people making between $250k and $500k were getting taxed 46%. HALF of their yearly income went to taxes.

The ecomony is in the condition it is for many reasons, not just the war. This goes back way further than him. Its not just about the fact taxes will go up but why. Bailing out failing companies while executives make millions, just an example.

I like to think of these protesters as a bien-pensant. Some of them are right, they might feel they are getting taxed to high. But you know, I'd rather be taxed, and know that we aren't in debt past our eyeballs, and programs are paid for.
quote:
The problem is I am not hearing where the money will go to help social programs. If I did, I would feel differently. At this rate, I don't see how we can ever imagine getting out of debt.
quote:
What the other thing is that pisses me off is this, people who think that taxes are being raised just for wasteful government spending, true there is some of that going on, but these people think its just for useless ****. Well really, if getting our roads repaired (I believe Iowa is getting $25 million dollars out of this stimulus package just for that) and power grid reworked so things are safer and more efficient, then I fail to see where the f*cking problem is!
quote:
Road work is good, sure. But look at where all of the money is going. The stimulus package is just the start. Every other day I am hearing about more ways they are going to spend more money. You cannot spend and spend and spend and expect the economy to turn around. That is exactly what got us into the mess.

In all honesty though, I personally believe its time to say f*ck it all and put through a flat tax. It will put an end to all of this b*tching and complaining about nothing, and then everyone can be happy and pay their fecking way!
