She's "volunteering" at a food bank, where hungry people go for food, and she's wearing a $540 pair of sneakers?! Bad form, Michelle.
First Lady Michelle Obama steps out in Lanvin sneakers and they're only $540!
BY Amy Diluna DAILY NEWS FASHION EDITOR
Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.
While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.
That's right: These sneakers - suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps - are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion's hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring.
They're out of stock at posh Meatpacking District boutique Jeffrey, and Barneys New York boasts a limited selection of the sneaks, which are a cult favorite among fashionistas.
It's likely Michelle got hers through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that often outfits her.
"They're shoes," the First Lady's reps sniffed when curious reporters inquired about the fancy footwear.
Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line's chiffon tank.
Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000.
Other celebrity fans of Lanvin's costly kicks include Ellen DeGeneres and Kanye West, who has blogged about his faves.
As the family's primary dog walker, Michelle clearly requires comfortable footwear.
"I got up at 5:15 in the morning to walk my puppy," she joked Thursday. "That's how my day starts. Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out."
She'll be trodding on New York's sidewalks Tuesday for the first time as First Lady. Michelle will meet with staff at the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Later, she headlines Time magazine's "100 most influential people" gala.
"If only you could have seen, how f**ked up my life used to be..."

May I remind everyone that the Obama's had money before they were in the white house and perhaps she bought them then. Before you start getting too uppity, think about that Coach purse you're covetting. If you bought it wouldn't you carry it with you everywhere, even if you went to a food pantry to help hand out food. And if someone questioned why you didn't have the decency to put your belongings into a cheap vinyl purse before showing up wouldn't you want to point out that you are carrying that purse because you spent your hard earned money on it and you're proud of your purchase?
Also, since she had money previously how do you know those shoes weren't bought before she was the first lady and when she got dressed she just grabbed a pair of shoes that went well with her outfit, cause no one can deny that they didn't go well with that outfit.
I'm so sick of everyone questioning their every move. The president and his family have been the most open first family we've had. They allow their whole life to be an open book, everyone knows everything they want about them, including how much they pay their children for an allowance each week(which btw was reported as 1 dollar a week to help teach their children about financial responsibility and how they can't have everything they want). Where the hell were all these damn critical people when the Bush family was spending their money frivoulisly? You want to tell me that every other first family wore walmart clothing? Damn hypocrits!
And I love how all the b*tching is about the shoes, no one mentions that she's out doing more volunteer work then I ever heard Mrs. Bush doing. I'd like to call attention to that. Screw the shoes, look at what she's doing while wearing them. She's HELPING!

Honestly i dont think shoes should ever be over $75, but that is just me. And if Iam going to pay that much for them (not that i would), then hell ya i am going to get my money worth and wear those every second i get. News is just reporting on stupid sh*t just so, they can get away from other things that are going on. I am glad that she is helping more power to her, in all truth i don't care about their personal life, i care what they are doing in the white house to help then country and htat is all that should be reported. But then again the Obama's are more of celebrity white family than the other's which is why this comes up and why they never reported on the Bush's spending and so on and so forth. Just my two cents.
We are all taught to fear death, yet death is not the taker of life, just the receiver. The ticking of the clock draws us near. Time is death, and it shall take.

Hey Aishafox, I understand what you're saying about the cost of the shoes. It just drives me crazy that there are bigger things out there to be worried about, but we're focusing on her style and what she spends on what she wears. If she didn't spend that much someone would be criticizing her saying she shouldn't be dressing so frumpy. It's like there's this little blip about how she's volunteering her time then the rest is about what she wore while she did it. it should be the other way around. Mention how many people she's helped, how much she's done. It's been quite a lot.
More power to that family, if I was in that position I wouldn't even open the news paper in the morning, I wouldn't be able to handle the next article someone wrote about me.
I was ranting, not just about the comments made on here, which weren't so bad, but I've read this article in a few other places and have been reading all these complaints about those shoes, no mention of the work she's done, just the shoes, and I'm fed up with the petty bs that is going around.

You know what. You are quite right. How dare we question her and Mr. Obama on what they do with their money. They have worked hard for it I have no doubt. They should be allowed to use and spend it as they want.
Wait... what am I saying?!!? Isn't Obama and his force of dogs the group that is constantly yelling at everyone about how filthy and corrupt the rich are? How we need to tax the hell out of the rich till they do not know what hit them? Are they not the side of this political bull**** that boldly proclaims that the lower and middle class only exist because of the wasteful greed of the rich?
I am sorry Protected, but you have just pointed out just how hypocritical they are. You have done a very good job of it actually. You have done a good job of it because you just used THE VERY SAME argument that the republicans have been using to explain why placing massive taxes on the rich is such a joke.

I like how you missed the portion of my post that mentioned all the work she's doing. I was ranting, as I said in the next post, about how everyone is so involved in everything she wears and not what she's doing. There are bigger problems at hand in this economy. Like the UAW, which is the main reason why the car companies are going under because it's hard to sell cars in an economy with no money when you have to charge so much to cover the workers you're not using. But what are the journalists reporting? Her shoes!

No, I did not miss the point of that. What I did was explain the point that you made so well. The work she is doing is great, but really she has not yet reached the level that most first ladies do.
Yes they are reporting on really stupid ****, but that is what reporters do. Obama bowing, Bush making a mistake in a speech. But all of that does not really matter. Case in point: they bitch about rich people being rich, then flaunt their own assets to the world.
This is clearly dialectical materialism and antagonistic contradiction at work
Everything is in a continuous process of transformation, so there's bound to be some paradoxes in the political and social ideological philosophies espoused by Miss Obama.
