Really, I don't think Godsmack should have joined their tour. As much as I loved watching them play their own show in St. Paul, I would much rather have had the new Smack album and Sully's new album, and go to the album tour.
I saw an interview for Crufest before it started and Tommy and Sully were together, Sully even gave props to Tommy as an inspiration for the drum battle.
The bad blood probably built up over time on the tour, I doubt that is why they didnt do a 3 way drum battle. I think any bad blood is with Vince or Nikki, not Tommy. Somewhere in the interview Sully refers to someone as fat , thats definitley not Tommy or Mick Mars.
Consider you a figment of my imagination, But will you ever go away?
The problem with this tour is that it paired a "what was" with a "what is." And the reason for doing it this way --$$$$. There are a lot of people who will go out for Crue -- either to re-live their youth or to see what the legend that they were too young to experience was all about. The big name builds ticket sales... Getting the wallets to open wide for Smack is a gamble that the money people won't take -- and truthfully, I don't know that they can sell out the venue size we'd like to see them in without another name attached. (Smack fans are loyal, but we're too few and not so rich!)
Here's the rub -- Smack is a VITAL band that is still growing, creating, and developing. There is still a lot of "Holy $hit!!!" energy and newness to their shows. With crue, it's about singing along to 20 year old vinyl -- same songs -- great memories -- but dang dissapointing that it doesn't sound just as good as we remembered. (maybe because we're older -- maybe because it really isn't possible for the young'uns to transplant their experience into the '80s...) In any case, I think it's gotta suck for them... Especially when set against something really good.
Truth be known -- I'd like to see a band like crue have the opportunity to stay alive by continuing to grow. They are all DAMN talented dudes -- and I'd bet there is still some amazing stuff in them. But instead, the power of $$$ says no -- stick with the safe stuff - stifled and uncreative. Thus, the opener CAN blow them away.
And we wonder why they piss & moan??? Heck -- camp rumors for Crue's last few tours were that things were just waiting to fall apart... Should we be surprised when they get backed into corners and come out acting like fools?
I remember back in the 80's when Kansas & Heart toured together (for the same couldn't sell it out alone reasons) They did a (very fake and staged) coin flip at the beginning of each show to see who headlined that night. THEY TOOK TURNS. For fans of each it added excitement, and for each band it took off some pressure. Maybe if egos and production pressures weren't in the way, such a strategy might have worked here... but I'm dreming...
All this, just my thoughts...
Aargh.... Back to school.... Am I ever gonna freakin' graduate????
One of the things I heard that Crue did was that they claimed they lost Godsmack's graphics for their back stage laminates, and gave them ones that just had 'Opening Band' on it - which I personally saw - just plain ole 'Opening Band'. Wow!

SHOUT! SHOUT!" i'm not bashing cuz i love our smack boys - i'm bashing cuz crue sucked. if i'd paid to see just them, i'd be one mad bitch.

That's low. I couldn't go see GS this time around (and they would be the only band for whom I would go), but if I did I would mourn every cent that went into Crue's pockets. It's bad enough when a band is past its prime and still goes on stage, but if it can't take the reality with at least some dignity it becomes disgusting.

everything said so far was true! the opening band on their credentials is a huge slap in the face. i saw it as well and could not believe it. i met the guys in tampa, and they didnt seem to be themselves. they acted pissed off. i believe it has something to do with taking whiskey out of the set, because crue was running out of time because of noise ordinance.crue made them cut a song out. also that night sully made a comment about crue that basical said f--- you, without having to say it. it was great and classy. the guys still kicked ass, and i cant wait to see them again!
I never would have went if Godsmack wasn't playing. They ruled the tour for sure and it seems Crue couldn't handle it. Sounds like Crue disrespected the guys; I don't blame them for being pissed off.

At first, I got my tickets to only see Godsmack. Then after I started thinking about it, I got kind of excited about seeing Crue. Never got to see them back in the day. Godsmack kicked my ass, of course. Wasn't worried about them in the least. I've NEVER seen a bad Godsmack show. EVER! Then Crue came out and the words that just ruined my night came out of Vince's mouth: We're going to play Dr. Feelgood from top to bottom. So NOT the Crue I was expecting. Then after a few songs and really not being able to tell what song they were singing until the crowd started singing, I was ready for it to be over. I thought their show was cheesy and Vince was AWFUL! It's amazing that all Godsmack really had was a little bit of pyro and they were by far, what made the whole concert. Crue had all the stage props (I guess this was supposed to make up for all of the suckage that was going on?) and it just came off as pathetic to me. The music part of Crue's set wasn't bad, but Vince really ruined it for me. I'm glad I went though - mainly because I was having serious Smack withdrawels. But now I don't have to sit back & wonder about what Motley Crue would be like live. I know...and I won't ever waste my money on them again.
My friend wanted to go for Crue and I of course for Godsmack only; now knowing what crap Crue put Godsmack through; I am so glad Godsmack kicked their *ss the entire tour and ended the tour with their dignity! Godsmack should have headlined this one for sure!

I totally agree with you Kat - I had no idea they were signing shout at the devil until he started to sing the chorus. We left before the encore even started - so did alot of other people too!!!
Went to Crue Fest a few weeks ago and these guys brought more than just bells and whistles. Motley Crue had a cool stage setup but sounded horrible on most songs. We left about half way through so I could get home for the sitter but wasn't disappointed I left. Godsmack outplayed, out-wowed and out-hotted Crue to shame. Can't wait for 2010 to see them again!
