I don't know wether it's already been covered or not, I didn't search first, sorry. But I understand that Sully practices wicca? Do the other band mates practice to?
From what I read I'm taking it that GodSmack is a wiccan band, is this correct? And their sun logo portrays the wiccan god?
I ask these things beacuse I'm a "christian" and was slightly shocked when I actually began looking into all of it. I only listened to the music, I never really cared about anything else, and despite anything else I'm not going to stop listening or bash, cause plain and simple I like the music.
From what I know, Godsmack is not a wiccan band. Sully is Wiccan, but I don't think the other guys are. Who knows though, they may be. I don't think Tony, Robbie or Shannon has ever covered their religion beliefs to the public. And now that I think about it, maybe that's another reason why Sully refuses to have the public ask about their religion. *shrugs*
As far as the sun logo goes. If I remember correctly I think Sully seen a tattoo design for the sun and slightly edited it a bit and decided to use it for the band. But you may be right about it resembling the Wiccan god?
I think that It may very well be religiously related, wicca clearly states that their god is portrayed as the sun. Erna is wiccan, has a sun tattoo that could be in relation to his god such as "christians" have tattoos of crosses in relation to christ, and Erna being wiccan and the bands logo being the sun it only makes sense that this is where it derived. I may be totally wrong. But if this is the case I can see why some christians would view godsmack as satanic beacuse the wiccan god is the "horned one" which to some may resembel satan in the chrisitian bibel.
Do I really care? No. It's just intresting to think about. And Erna being the front for the band, and a member of a wiccan "church" it would only make sense that godsmack would be a "wiccan band" much like POD is a "chrisitan band". How many people have converted or discovered Wicca beacuse of godsmack? They have become increasingly popular and with wicca threads being present godsmack almost serves as a means to convert people to wicca.

P.S I don't really care if it is the case or not, Music is all that I truley care about, and they make awsome music.

no. wiccans don't try to convert anyone to their path unlike most christians who swear we're all going to hell if we don't believe in god and jesus christ as our savior. we don't feel the need to judge and condemn. you say you aren't trying to bash gs but i ain't feelin' it from your posts.
If you feel im bashing you're taking it was to personal. Im just "thinking out loud" this now has become a religious thread though... So if the mod wants to move it, by all means do so.
And to most people godsmack is sully, When you ask someone about godsmack the first thing they think is Erna. He as the lead singer reprsents the band. And yes I hear you on the Wiccans dont force their religion onto anyone, I have wiccan neighbors they keep to them selves but have lots of cats that can be annoying. Anyway back on track, Erna can be viewd as a persuasive force that ends up with people converting or picking up Wicca.
Oh and from a christians point of view, any religion that worships false gods i.e the sun god and moon goddess, can be viewed as satanic. Reason being that there is supposed to be only one true god and those who worshop falsley are following satan.
Im mean in no way to offend anyone, Im just portraying my thoughts of what people may think about all this. Im not saying anyone is wrong or right in their beliefs, to each his own.
And the original reason for this thread was to find out if it has been stated weather or not the sun logo actually represented the sun god. But maybe that is a question for the band.

As a Christian, I would just like to put in my two cents here. First of all, I have been following GS for years and been to a few shows. One of the things that I like about Sully is that while his views are quite different from mine, he does not try to impose them on others. There are plenty of bands out there who try to persuade others whether its their "political agenda" and so on, GS is not one of those bands. Second of all, if you do any research about Sully's views, you would find out that while he is Wiccan, he respects the rights of others, something that alot of people do not do.
I'm sorry, but its this rhetoric that is part of what continues to give Christians a bad name. You may not mean any offense, but your being stereotypical. Surely you would want others to respect your faith.

Maybetomorrow, you are looking for the connection that's is not there. Google up Sully's interviews, get his book, and you will see that your train of thoughts takes you in the wrong direction. However, if thinking out loud about GS hidden proselytism is more fascinating than the available facts, then what's the point of the discussion? You are not going to get many nods to your theory from people who followed the band for years and know a thing or two about its members.

If someone becomes a Wiccan because of Sully, they are not converting or picking up a religion. They are running around with the newest and coolest toy amusing themselves. This sort of "conversion" is not appreciated in Wicca.

The sun can represent Jesus Christ too. Christ is called "Sun" in the Bible and is associated with qualities of the sun - light and warmth. I am sure as a Christian you know that. Of course in Christianity it's not just any sun but the Sun of Righteousness. But when Christ's initials are not present, the Sun of Righteousness looks like any other sun symbol. Happy further thinking out loud.

I am Christian and some of my best friends are Pagan You believe yours and I will believe mine...due respect on each side. Besides, w/ all the labels aside...aren't we all after the same thing?
Best example...Godsmack..Livin in Sin. The children of GS each reciting prayers of their religions. One Wiccan one Christian Beautiful. Tolerance is something this world is greatly lacking.
