i love the band, from moonbaby to the greatest hits....

but they've grown up and gotten back to the roots of their teen years, and i think its badass...

i love the older stuff for its harder edge, but i respect the new stuff lyrically & musically as well...

just wondering to all you other smack freaks what your favorite songs are from each album

and why?

i love the progress / positive change the band's gone through...

godsmack - moon baby
awake - awake
faceless - re-align
the other side - runnin blind
good times bad times - good times bad times \m/

To me their music has matured so much over the years. Which isn't a bad thing at all, cause like Sully said..."Variety is the spice of life". Sometimes it feels easier to put out a harder/heavier sounding album than say some deeper sounding stuff. So when I think of how their music has progressed from the first album to the last it really shows how much they have grown out of doing the really heavy stuff. Don't get me wrong, some of their newer stuff is heavy but it shows that they have matured in their music.

S/T - Moonbaby, Keep Away, Now or Never, Situation.
Awake - Awake, Greed, Vampires, Spiral.
Faceless - SOoL, Changes, Re-Align, Releasing the Demons, Dead and Broken.
IV - Livin' In Sin, Hollow, No Rest for the Wicked, Mama
The Other Side - Voices, running blind, Asleep, and the remakes.

As with any band, most have to keep growing in all aspects of their music to keep things fresh. I love that the guys dabble in alot of different rock sounds and aren't afraid to just play with things.

For me:

Godsmack - Whatever, Moon Baby, Keep Away, Bad Religion
Awake - Sick of Life, Spiral, Awake, Greed
Faceless - Straight Out of Line, I am, Re-Align
IV - Speak, Shine Down, Bleeding Me, One Rainy Day
Other Side - Running Blind, Touche, Asleep

Hi There,
I see a change in the music as well,
I'm pretty sure I get it,it's actually very heavy.
I am quite sure that every album is a diary of Sully's spiritual journey.
There are too many ties lyrically to ones self exploration into the spiritual realm(meditation)
To me it's undeniable ,but to most this sounds wierd unless of course you are on a similar path or journey.
Anyhow, thats how I see it and it would be tough to convince me otherwise.
And to the people that dont understand why they crank out to these tunes every day, over and over again.
I say this,"theres a good chance that you are searching for something"
It may take a while but you will see it to be so one day
Later

Yeah, there's a sense of maturity in the progression. If you look at the first CD, and IV, you can see a big difference.

Maturity is actually a very good word to describe it.
Enlightened would work too.
I have heard some say that Sully has ego issues when it comes to this band,
That depends on how you look at it.
This is not bubble gum pop that 4 guys would sit around and say,"We need a cool word that rymes with
-----"
I think it is a finely crafted message that is deeply personal and any change would be a compromise as well as senseless in its context.
And who knows,it may be so far over the other guys heads that they dont get it and think He is unreasonable.
Maybe not ,but plausible.
Hard stuff to explain to some people

I agree totally. It's hard to describe it. It isn't a game of matching words. It's like the guys come up with this to let us see into their thoughts and feelings. It shows how they have grown over the years.

I like this subject,
What do you think is the percentage of fans who really understand the lyrics?
Any thoughts on why the solo tour is called Exposed?

I think the percent that really understands is less than half. There are a lot of fans that just say "Oh it sounds great" or "Sully is so good looking" yet no one really understands that Sully and the guys went through it and are trying to help others.

And as for the solo tour, I think it's called Exposed to share a glimpse of what Sully is capable of sharing with the fans.

I think it is much less than half,
I have a thought about the meaning of Exposed but I dont want to start anything.
And I could be full of it truth be told.
Anyway, I need to stop this for tonight.
I might catch you later
Thanks

Who knows,
Some feel the early albums were dark compared to the latter.
Could be,but to me the latter seemed to be more about
inner conflict.or should I say.a whole new level of it that can really stress one out,due to dealing with the demon of doubt.
at least thats how I see it.
To me,as far as what I am listening to one is as Gritty as the other ,just a little different.

Yeah. The gritty doesn't matter as much. It's showing that they gave grown in the sense of being artists. And you can see that throughout the albums.
